American Sniper: Kyle Rittenhouse and the Cult of the Kill

It’s no surprise that the white Trump supporter in my high rise wore his “Let’s Go Brandon” shirt minutes after the Kyle Rittenhouse verdict was announced. He’s the same man who refuses to wear a mask in the elevator (even though the co-op requires it), and calls those who ask him to comply “Nazis.” He doesn’t aim for civility with his neighbors, he demands preferential treatment. As is his Christian, God-given right in a city with 8 million people and almost as many different backgrounds and beliefs. In the New America, rules only apply if they side with your beliefs.

It’s no surprise, either, that Fox News had multiple orgasms over the verdict, because, regardless of the facts of the case — and, I should point out, many wiser people than I have stated, sadly, that it was correct — the Right, who lost their desire for truth years ago, had only one goal in mind, and it wasn’t to prove that Rittenhouse was innocent — “innocence” now being a word that only favors their righteous clan. They wanted, and got, a win for white supremacy, for hate, and for the Fascist, tyrannical leader of their cult.

The Trump supporters, a mostly vile, cynical, and miserable lot, have no interest in justice or the rule of law — on the contrary, they despise it, along with pretty much every legal principle this country was founded upon — they…
